What is a Seconds Piece?

During production, and as a result of our high-quality standards, we produce a quantity of Seconds pieces every week. During kiln firing, variations in temperature can occur which result in glazed pots appearing lighter or darker than the ideal colour standard or surface imperfections can arise. These imperfections are usually quite minor but can vary from piece to piece and range to range. They are purely cosmetic blemishes and in no way detract from the safety, strength or durability of the pieces concerned and all Seconds items are 100% safe to use in the dishwasher, freezer, microwave and oven. However, if you are buying Seconds pieces to mix with your Best Quality items you may see a difference in colour of the pieces, especially on some of our more reactive ranges where the colour differences can be more noticeable. Kiln Green is tranquil, soft, and serene, designed to embrace the link with nature and biophilic design. The calming colour palette of soft white and celadon shades of green combine to create the stunning reactive glaze effects used across the collection. Firstly the elliptical pattern used on the face of the plates and bowls, applied differently to each piece, pools beautifully to create the organic finish, and this is then accompanied by the ombre hand-dipped effect used on the taller items to give each its own identity, whilst still layering together beautifully as a complete range.

Designed to make food look and taste beautiful as well as work as stunning home decor pieces, the collection offers tactile glazes, organic shapes and simplistic beauty. Touched by at least 20 pairs of hands through the making process, and handcrafted in Derbyshire by true artisans, Kiln Green is inspired by studio pottery in a timeless collection that is been designed to bring harmony to any room in the house or garden, every day.
