Environmental Policy and WEEE Statements

Environmental Policy Statement

Established in 1809, Denby has been making pottery in the heart of the English countryside for over 200 years. The Pottery has a rich heritage of creating tableware, cookware, serveware, home décor and gifts built up over its many generations of skilled craftspeople. The stoneware and porcelain ceramics are all ‘styled by life’ – versatile, beautiful, and durable products which are informed by consumers and their constantly changing lives. Denby is a conscious interiors choice for those of us choosing a more sustainable lifestyle, both in the kitchen and around the home - proudly still handcrafted in England using locally sourced clay and renowned for its ‘made to last’ ethos.

Through the implementation, development, and maintenance of our environmental management system, we are dedicated to the principles of ISO 14001 and seek to operate in a manner that minimises our impact on the environment. Through established resources allocated to managing our environmental responsibilities we will ensure protection of the environment and pollution prevention, fulfilment of our compliance obligations, and continual environmental improvement.

Enhancement of our environmental performance will be achieved through the adoption of environmental objectives and an environmental improvement programme based on our context, environmental aspects, compliance obligations, environmental risks and opportunities.
Specifically, we are committed to controlling the following significant aspects to avoid or minimise the associated environmental impacts and risks to as low as is reasonably practicable:
  • Energy consumption
  • Raw material utilisation
  • Waste generation
  • Packaging
Furthermore, the Denby Group are committed to reducing our overall carbon emissions and have introduced a Net Zero 2050 policy to drive its implementation.

Whilst senior management are responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of this policy and ensuring its inclusion in the company strategy, and specialist environmental management are responsible for driving improvements over time, achieving a positive outcome is seen as requiring the total commitment of all employees.

WEEE Recycling

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013.

The WEEE regulations require that businesses involved in the distribution of electronic and electrical equipment take an active role in its collection and recycling. So that you can get your old electrical products recycled, Denby have made a financial contribution toward the development of recycling collection points (known as Designated Collection Facilities) throughout the UK through membership of the Distributor Take Back Scheme (DTS).

Denby does not recycle electrical items in store. For your nearest recycling centre.

To remind you to recycle, all new electronic products are marked with a crossed out wheelie bin symbol.

WEEE Statement - Helping you to recycle your electrical equipment

Why are we involved?

Recycling facilities are now available at which you can deposit your old electrical products. This is a requirement under UK legislation.

The aim of the legislation is to:

  • Make good use of the materials that make up old electrical equipment by recycling rather than disposing in landfill.
  • Prevent the negative environmental effects of sending often hazardous electrical equipment to landfill.

As a conscientious business, Denby Pottery Company has chosen to group together with other retailers in joining the ‘Distributor Take Back Scheme’. Through this scheme, we have paid toward the provision of improved recycling facilities for our customers

How does this work in practice?

Denby customers will be able to take any old electrical equipment to participating civic amenity sites (often known as ‘household waste recycling centres’) run by their local councils. Please remember that this equipment will be further handled during the recycling process, so please be considerate when depositing your equipment. Funding collected through the Distributor Take Back Scheme has been distributed between all Local Authorities in the UK to ensure the provision of improved recycling facilities. Producers of these products will then ensure that deposited items are taken away and recycled.

Where to dispose of electrical equipment

Wherever practical, old electrical waste should not be disposed of with your household waste. You can locate your closest participating collection site at www.recycle-more.co.uk (please remember to have your postcode to hand).

To remind you to recycle, all new electrical products are marked with a crossed out wheeled bin symbol.
