The Year of the Horse.

While 2025 was a yin year, being more passive, 2026 will be a yang year and much more about action. A Horse year occurs every 12 years and is the seventh animal in the Chinese zodiac. It’s a symbol of high energy, independence and innovation.

The Celebration.

A celebration of family, food and new beginnings, this colourful holiday also signifies the change of zodiac signs. This year is The Year of the Horse which is recognised as the most free-spirited and energetic of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac. Your birth year determines exactly which Chinese zodiac sign you are, and each sign has specific personality traits and future fortunes.

The Chinese New Year Celebrations last 15 days, each day as special as the last. On New Year’s Eve, families come together and enjoy a large traditional meal and fireworks. The end of the celebrations is marked by The Lantern Festival, the streets are filled with dancing dragons and families carrying glowing lanterns. Candles are lit outside the homes to guide wayward spirits to be reunited with their families.

The Food.

The Chinese New Year holiday starts with the New Year’s Eve dinner which is on the 16^th February this year. It’s one of the most important parts of Chinese New Year and every family member attends this meal. Great care is taken to prepare the food together and each dish is given a blessing for the new year. Therefore, it’s important that the look and taste of every dish is just right.

KungPao Chicken is a delicious, stir-fried chicken dish which combines salty, sweet and spicy flavours. It’s based in a traditional Sichuan inspired dish.
