The 1980’s are fondly remembered as the decade of exuberance and progressive attitudes. We saw the rise of the "yuppie," more women in the workforce and an explosion of new cuisines. Fast forward to the end of the decade and 1989 saw the launch of the World Wide Web and the arrival of a young and enthusiastic ceramic designer called Richard Eaton at Denby, who championed ‘classic over chintz’. His first design was the stunning Imperial Blue with its rich deep blues contrasting against pure whites in beautifully textured glazes and on bold shapes, including the introduction of the now ubiquitous Denby pasta bowl. The appeal of this simple yet striking design is clear, as Imperial Blue is still widely loved around the world 35 years on for its effortless elegance, versatility and durability.

Imperial Blue has evolved over time to meet changing lifestyles with over 20 Bowls: rice to ramen, dipping to pasta. We have a bowl for all the needs that reflect the way we live and eat today. To celebrate 35 years of Imperial Blue, we are introducing new pieces to the range with small, medium large organic dishes, large organic platter and small and large ridged mugs available in both Imperial Blue and sister pattern Blue Haze.
...blending perfectly with other ranges...
After years of love for our Imperial Blue range, we introduced Blue Haze, a collection of modern, additional pieces, infusing our unique glazing techniques and modern shapes. The collection perfectly complements our original Imperial Blue and also offers pieces designed to be used around the home such as our vases, candle and diffuser.
...Britsh craftsmanship, loved worldwide.
Imperial Blue is still handcrafted in our pottery in Derbyshire today as it was 35 years ago when it was designed here, but the strikingly simple design has made it a staple not only in the UK, but around the world too. Imperial Blue has reached the table of homes in China, Korea, America and Canada to name a few countires. A true celebration of British craftsmanship, our pieces are loved worldwide for the same reason they're loved here: they're versatile, beautiful and durable.
