Family Mince Pie

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 pack ready made shortcrust pastry
  • Plain flour for dusting
  • Baking beans
  • 1 egg yolk to glaze
  • 1 large jar mincemeat

METHOD:

  1. Take your ready made pastry out of the fridge about 10 mins before you need it.
  2. Pre-heat the oven to 200ºC, Gas Mark 6.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out your pastry until it’s big enough to line a Denby loose bottomed fluted flan tin. Don’t forget to save a little for the angel decorations.
  4. Place the rolled out pastry in your tin and prick the bottom with a fork.
  5. Line the pastry with greaseproof paper, fill with baking beans and bake for 10 - 15 minutes.
  6. Remove the beans and cook for a further 5 minutes, until the pastry is cooked through and golden.
  7. Roll out the saved pastry and use your angel cutters to create the decorations for the top.
  8. Spoon your mincemeat into the pastry base and finish with your angel decorations. 
  9. Brush the edges of the pie and the angels with the egg glaze.
  10. Bake in the oven for around 30 mins or until the angels are golden.
  11. The perfect gift for someone special on their favourite Denby plate.
